In West Spring Primary School, the PE programme starts progressively in the lower primary. Students will master the fundamental motors skills using a broad variety of ‘PLAY’ concept activities in dance, gymnastics, athletics, sports and games,
After acquiring a broad based of movement competencies, the students will combine their skills to participate and enjoy a wide range of physical activities, sports and games. Thereafter, students with demonstrated talent can invest more time and effort in highly specialised and intensive training for high performance in the CCAs. They will then be able to continue their participation recreationally or competitively, moving them towards a life-long participation in the physical activities and healthy living.
In addition, the PE programme in West Spring Primary School aims to develop the students’ social and affective outcome so as to bring about the total development of our students.
The SwimSafer is a national water safety programme developed to raise the standard of swimming proficiency amongst the students in Singapore. The school introduced the programme at primary 3 with the additional objectives of developing students’ confidence and independence in the water. Skills learned will enable our students to achieve SwimSafer Stage 1-3 and advance levels in Bronze, Silver and Gold certification.
FRESH (FRuits to Enjoy and Stay Healthy) Wednesday Programme
The school introduces the FRESH Wednesday Programme to inculcate the healthy habit of eating fruits. Each Wednesday, students will be given a fruit to eat before recess. This programme which was piloted in 2015 has continued to introduce a variety of fruits to the students. Each year, our students would have tasted more than 20 variety of exotic fruits such as persimmon, apricot, strawberries, blueberries, etc. In addition, our students are also educated on the fruits and its nutritional values. Students learn the variety of vitamins, minerals, fibre and its benefits to our body.
