International Friendship Day
International Friendship Day
2023
On Wednesday, 5 April 2023, the school celebrated International Friendship Day with this year’s theme being ‘Singapore in Asia.’ During the assembly programme, students learnt about the importance of connecting with communities different from their own. Specifically, the connection between Singapore and the neighbouring ASEAN countries.
Through the assembly programme, students were encouraged to develop friendship and collaboration with individuals from the different ASEAN countries by having an open mindset and appreciation for our neighbouring countries. The assembly began with a group of Primary 4 students dancing to music from the different ASEAN countries. Thereafter, a video of students interviewing their peers about how ASEAN countries support one another was shown. Lastly, to further engage the West Springers and to enhance their understanding of the importance of collaboration among ASEAN countries, our student emcees conducted a quiz for the whole school to participate in!
2022
On 6 April, we celebrated International Friendship Day during the assembly.
The theme for this year’s International Friendship Day is Singapore in Asia. International cooperation remains key in our complex world. By recognising the importance of connectedness between our neighbouring countries, we can play an active role in fostering people-to-people ties, and thus celebrate the region’s diversity and vibrancy and promote the spirit of friendship and collaboration.
In the assembly programme, our fellow schoolmates have shared about the colourful cultures and traditions of ASEAN and other Asian countries. We also got to learn more about the lives of our friends overseas. Finally, the Primary 6s shared about what they have learnt from the REACH (Respecting and Embracing Asian Cultural Heritage) virtual immersions last year. We had a very enriching time learning about the other countries and their cultures!
